Report on Current Uses of Web 2.0 Applications in Transportation

Report now available online

FHWA recently sponsored a research study to investigate current uses of web 2.0 applications in transportation. The final report from the study is now available here. A text-only version is also available here.

The report presents seven case studies that illustrate how select state Departments of Transportation are using web 2.0 technologies to meet business objectives. Web 2.0 technologies in use include GIS-based mashup maps, social media, wikis, and other types of applications.

Major findings compiled from case studies are intended to help transportation agencies identify effective practices for implementing, managing, and maintaining web 2.0 applications.

Spring GIS in Transportation newsletter

Newsletter now available online

The spring GIS in Transportation Newsletter is now available. A text-only version is available here.

The spring newsletter includes an article by Nick Vakili-Rad, Special Projects Engineer at the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), on SCDOT's use of GIS to build a Project Screening Tool.

Also included in the spring issue is an editorial by Greg Ferrara, Program Manager at the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) at North Carolina State University. The editorial focuses on ITRE's GIS support for the North Carolina State Highway Patrol's Motor Carrier Enforcement group.

Webcast summary now available online

A summary of the spring GIS in Transportation webcast is now available. The webcast speaker was Todd Pierce from the Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at the University of North Carolina (UNC)-Asheville. Mr. Pierce presented on the Buncombe County, North Carolina, Multi-Hazard Risk Tool.

Newsletter now available online

The winter GIS in Transportation Newsletter is now available. A text-only version is available here.

The winter newsletter includes an article by Rose Braun, GIS Manager at the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR), on NDOR's GIS-based Right-of-Way application.

Also included in the winter issue is an editorial by Kevin Hunt, GIS Manager at the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The editorial discussed NYSDOT's Road Status and Damage Assessment application.
