Current FHWA Research Efforts
FHWA is soliciting information on two research efforts:
- One effort will address transportation agencies' use of GIS for environmental streamlining. Please contact Andrew Breck at andrew.breck@dot.gov by March 9 to offer suggestions on case studies to highlight. The goal of this effort is to identify successful transportation programs that use GIS to facilitate and expedite the National Environmental Protection Act process. A 2005 FHWA research effort dealt with this same topic; the report from that effort is located here.
- A second effort will focus on GIS-based transportation web portals. Please contact Ben Cotton at benjamin.cotton@dot.gov by March 9 to offer suggestions on what case studies to highlight. The goal is to identify transportation agencies that have deployed internet-based portals or virtual dashboards to provide GIS services and data to organizations and/or the general public.
