Dr. Alan Wayne to take on new position as the Deputy Clinical Director for Medical Affairs
Dr. Alan Wayne, Senior Clinician, Pediatric Oncology Branch (POB), has agreed to take on a new position as the Deputy Clinical Director for Medical Affairs. Dr. Wayne joins an outstanding team led by the Clinical Director, Dr. William Dahut and Deputy Clinical Director, Ms. Caryn Steakley. Dr. Wayne will play an important role as part of the leadership team overseeing the delivery of medical care to CCR patients; regulatory and ethical compliance related to human subjects research; and a wide array of resources critical to the conduct of clinical research, including biostatistical support, administrative support of protocol development, review and monitoring; research nursing; clinical research training; data management, patient recruitment, and informatics. Dr. Wayne will continue his roles as Head of the Hematologic Diseases Section and Clinical Director in the POB.

Fernanda Arnaldez selected to receive the Brigid Leventhal Merit Award at ASCO 2012
Congratulations to Fernanda Arnaldez who was selected to receive the Brigid Leventhal Merit Award at ASCO 2012 based upon the highest ranked abstract in pediatric cancer. The title of her abstract is: Identification of TNK2 as a critical kinase in rhabdomyosarcoma through a loss of function shRNA screen.

Childhood Cancers in Translation
Alan Wayne, M.D., Head of the Hematologic Diseases Section of CCR's Pediatric Oncology Branch, works with a team of investigators to develop novel targeted approaches to treat ALL and other childhood leukemias and lymphomas in hopes that these new therapies will prove more potent and less toxic than those currently available.
