1/25/2013 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala.  --
Created as a means to bolster resiliency for Airmen and their families, the new community support coordinator will be working to provide strength and support for Maxwell.

The purpose of the community support coordinator is to provide a full-time focal point liaison to integrate resiliency and Comprehensive Airmen Fitness efforts for Airmen and their families.

"I am very excited about working this new position," said La Tonya Lewis, community support coordinator at the 42nd Air Base Wing. "This new position will allow me to help take care of Airmen and their families which is something I have always wanted to do."

Lewis fills the new position after serving more than 17 years in the Air Force as a maintenance scheduler, Afghan Air National Air Corps mentor and advisor. She also was a professional military education instructor and faculty development superintendent at the Air Force NCO Academy at Gunter.

"Among other qualifications, I hired Lewis due to her unmatched passion for taking care of Airmen and their families, as well as her personal resilience," said Col. Susan Schlacter, 42nd Air Base Wing vice commander.

Lewis stated that her goal as community support coordinator is to establish plans, develop programs and recommended solutions in cooperation with all agencies to benefit the 42nd Air Base Wing community.

Lewis said she believes that by helping Airmen garner strength within the four pillars of wellness - social, emotional, physical and spiritual - they will remain resilient and continue to be leaders within their communities and family.

"If one of these pillars were to crack, we lose an Airman," said Lewis. "With the tools given to me by this position, I plan to help take care of Airmen and their families, one pillar at a time. I will do everything in my power to make sure that the pillars remain strong because I believe that resiliency is reality.

Airmen, civilians, spouses and all Department of Defense members are encouraged to contact Lewis with an idea or suggestion that could benefit the well-being of an Airman and their families.

To contact Lewis, call 953-9822 or email her.
