SSG David Birchfield
News Director

SSG David Birchfield comes from Auburn, AL. Home of the Auburn Tigers, also known as "The loveliest village on the plains!" He first enlisted in 2002 as a Tanker. His first duty station was with the Big Red One in Vilseck, Germany. He also deployed with them for OIF 2. After redeploying back to Vilseck, he got out of the Army in 2005, but missed it so very much that he decided to come back in 2007. He was then assigned to the 3d Armored Calvary Regiment at Fort Hood, Texas where he again deployed to Iraq for 15 months.

After redeploying, SSG Birchfield was considering his options and decided to see what re-enlistment had to offer. When he found out about broadcasting he pursued it full throttle. "Usually when you find a job that you want to do in the Army something happens where it either goes away or you aren't qualified."

SSG Birchfield is excited to be back in Bavaria and working for AFN. "It's almost like I never left!"
