Emergency Visas
Emergency Visas: (Expedited Appointments)
If you have an urgent need to travel, you must contact the Consular Section and request an emergency appointment. The Consular Section may be reached by phone at 222 4-525-4527 or 222 4-525-4551 or through email at ConsularNKC@state.gov. Please note that no one will be admitted to the U.S. Embassy outside of normal visa interviewing times without an appointment.
The U.S. Embassy in Nouakchott has a small number of emergency appointments available for serious humanitarian reasons such as medical-related travel or for truly urgent business travel. Failure to plan ahead adequately for business meetings, conferences, trade fairs, or tourism is not normally considered an emergency.
If you are requesting an emergency appointment for medical-related travel, please provide a brief explanation of your relationship to the patient and the patient’s condition. If you are requesting an emergency appointment for a business reason, please provide a brief description of the business matter that could not be foreseen.
Please keep in mind that an expedited interview appointment does not guarantee issuance of a visa. For those found eligible for a visa, please also note that the U.S. Embassy does not guarantee that the visa will be ready for pick-up on the same day as the visa interview. An emergency reason to travel does not result in a waiver of any of the standard visa processing requirements.
