Registration of Foreigners in Mozambique ( June 18, 2007)

The U.S. Embassy is sending this warden message to registered American citizens to inform them that the Mozambican Ministry of Interior, National Immigration Directorate has publicized a notice requesting all foreigners present in Mozambique for more than ninety (90) days to appear at the provincial Immigration Services to update their DIRE. 

The following is an English translation of a recent announcement placed in local newspapers.

Notice

The Foreign Community resident in the Republic of Mozambique is hereby informed that an individual filing update for Foreign Citizens who are Resident and Non-Resident will take place from 13 June to 13 July 2007. This update is applicable for foreign citizens who during this period have been to Mozambique for more than ninety (90) days.

The process will take place at the Provincial Immigration Services of the area of residence.

For this purpose, foreign citizens should produce the following documents:

a) Dire;
b) Passport;
c) Documentation providing the need for residence status;
d) Form “Application for…” (Modelo 11/DNM) duly filled out;

Foreigner who cannot appear personally, may appoint the Human Resources Department of their employer to do so on their behalf.


The information we have obtained from some Americans who have already gone through the process is that the purpose is to update all DIREs in Mozambique. A fee of approximately 50 meticais was charged.

The Consular section is normally open Monday to Thursday 7:30- 4:00 (closed 12:00 to 1:00) and Fridays 7:30 to 11:00.

Visa interviews are normally conducted on Tuesday and Thursday morning, so it is advised to schedule non-emergency visits to the Consular section at other times.

Please be reminded that during the period from now until July 5, 2007 the Consular section may be operating on limited hours due to upcoming events and you are advised to call in advance to schedule any non-emergency visit to the Consular section.
