Ambassador Donald Koran visited the District of Gicumbi in the Northern Province where he had the opportunity to visit different projects supported by the United States..

His first stop was a visit to the Gicumbi Teacher Training College where he observed how the Rwanda Education Commons, a USAID-funded ICT in Education project, supports the quality of teaching in Rwanda. The Rwanda Education Commons is a 4-year, $4.8 million project that uses technology to improve teaching practices and access to education resources.  He toured the Center’s library facilities and Teacher Resource Center to get a feel of the resources available to Rwandan student teachers.

After his visit to the school, Ambassador Donald Koran was received at the District office by the Governor of the Northern Province, Aime Bosenibamwe and the Mayor of Gicumbi District, Nyangezi Bonane.

Later in the day, Ambassador Koran visited the Gihembe Refugee Camp and met with the American Refugee Committee and UNHCR, who briefed him on the camp's operations and gave him a tour.  He inaugurated a poultry project funded by the U.S. Department of State's Julia Taft Fund, which will provide livelihoods for 250 refugee women.

The Ambassador also took the opportunity to visit a local radio, Ishingiro, which was launched with USAID funding.
