Commerce Trade Official To Participate In St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

Washington

Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Market Access and Compliance Michael Camuñez will represent the U.S. Department of Commerce at the 2012 St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (Forum), June 22-23, in St. Petersburg, Russia. Camuñez will meet with public and private sector officials to discuss expanding U.S.-Russia trade relations, including Russia’s imminent accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Camuñez will deliver remarks along with Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Miriam Sapiro and Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg to the American Chamber of Commerce in St. Petersburg. He will also join Sapiro and U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul in offering remarks to the Russia-U.S.

Business Dialogue.

The Forum, an annual event organized by Russia’s government, attracts a wide range of CEOs and government officials from Europe, Asia, and the Americas to discuss global business issues as well as to focus on opportunities in the Russian market.

U.S. merchandise exports to Russia doubled from 2005 to 2010, and grew almost 40 percent in 2011 to more than $8 billion. U.S. exports stand to benefit as Russia opens its markets further under the WTO.
