Security Notice for individuals who have business with the U.S. Consular Section in Bern

In order to ensure everyone's safety and to ensure that security screening does not delay admission to the Consulate, the following items will NOT be allowed into the Embassy -- electronic devices (including phones and computers), backpacks, handbags, suitcases, baby strollers or liquids in any form.  Security personnel will not store items for applicants. We therefore suggest that all such items be left at home, in a locked car, at a locker at the train station, or with a friend or relative who remains outside the premises.

We encourage visitors to bring only necessary documents with them.
Thank you.

The U.S. Embassy in Bern’s visa section provides immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services to those wishing to travel to the United States. In addition, the public affairs section is prepared to assist potential visa applicants with information on traveling in the U.S., study in the U.S., and the U.S.-Swiss Fulbright program.

DHS Traveler Redress Inquiry Program

On occasion, U.S. consulates receive inquiries or complaints from foreign travelers about being delayed at the port of entry in the U.S. due to screening problems or being continuously sent to secondary screening.

Please note that U.S. consulates do not have the authority to intervene on behalf of such travelers. However, DHS does have a redress process for reviewing the inquiry or complaint of an individual traveler. Travelers can request an audit of their case by completing and signing the redress request form located at http://www.dhs.gov/trip and following the website instructions for submitting it to DHS.
