Ambassador Bruce J. Oreck

One of my key goals as Ambassador is to increase trade and business between Finland and the U.S.

President Obama announced the National Export Initiative (NEI) two years ago, with the goal of doubling exports by 2014, and under Secretary Clinton’s, and Secretary Bryson’s leadership, we at the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki are working energetically to promote economic statecraft and commercial diplomacy, in order to actively expand trade and investment opportunities for U.S. companies in Finland.

In my time as Ambassador, I have been fortunate to work with many U.S. companies doing or seeking to do business in Finland, and I have met with many Finnish companies trying to improve their business prospects in the U.S.  I have travelled all over Finland, and to a number of places in the U.S., to encourage business, government, and educational leaders in those communities to foster and build closer economic ties between our two great countries.  At the Embassy in Helsinki and at our residence, we frequently host networking and promotional events to showcase products, discuss policies or simply bring the right people together.

One of our most successful endeavors during my tenure at Embassy Helsinki has been our energy efficiency initiative under the auspices of the League of Green Embassies.  In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Alliance to Save Energy, the League has broken ground by initiating the State Department’s largest public-private partnership in the smart energy segment. Twelve U.S. Ambassadors’ Residences across Europe underwent an energy efficiency makeover one after another in a period of a few months from 2011-2012, including Brussels, Madrid, Bern, Bratislava, Warsaw, Lisbon, Sofia, Rome, Berlin, and Vienna. For 2012-2013, the League will not only extend its successes in Europe, but will undertake an even more ambitious scope as it works on member embassy projects in South America, Africa and South Central Asia.

The Embassy, including the Commercial, Political/Economic and Public Affairs Sections, is dedicated to promoting and protecting U.S. commercial interests in Finland and stands ready to offer a variety of services to both U.S. and Finnish companies.

I hope you find the information on this site useful, and please do call upon us to assist you in whatever way we can.

Sincerely,

Bruce J. Oreck
Ambassador
