Webinar on Opportunities in Oman’s Growing Healthcare Sector - Feb. 26

We invite you to participate in the next webinar in the State Department’s sector-specific “Direct Line to U.S. Business” series.  The online videoconference is scheduled for Tuesday, February 26 from 11:00 to 12:00 EST (20:00-2100 local Muscat time) and will focus on opportunities in Oman’s growing healthcare sector. 

With billions of dollars in spending planned for medical cities in Salalah and Muscat, as well as specialized hospitals and clinics throughout the country, American companies are well-positioned to offer a winning value proposition of skill transfer, cutting edge technology, and long-term investment partnerships to help develop needed specialties in Oman, such as transplant, kidney, cancer, and diabetes centers; genetic and blood disorder diagnostics and management; as well as emergency response capabilities, information technology solutions, and human resource development. 

U.S. Embassy Muscat’s Chargé d’Affaires Laura Malenas will host the call.   We are pleased to announce that the Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Health, the Honorable Dr. Ahmed Qasmi is also confirmed as a participating speaker on the call, as well as Dr. Naeema Aziz, Project Director for Apex Medical Group’s new Salalah Medical City.  U.S. Embassy Commercial staff and Faris al-Farsi, Director General for Investment Promotion at Oman’s Public Authority for Investment Promotion & Export Development, will provide information on doing business under the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement.  To be confirmed: Dr. Hamad, Senior Consultant, Al Nadha Hospital, for a short presentation on opportunities in the dental sector.  Participants will have the opportunity to pose questions directly to presenters.

Doing Business Under the U.S.-Oman FTA:

The Embassy of the United States of America, Muscat, The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and The Muscat American Business Council are organizing a workshop on “Doing Business Under the U.S.-Oman FTA” on October 16, 2012 at Intercontinental Hotel, Muscat from 0830-1300, followed by a networking lunch.  Aaron Brinkman, Deputy Director of the Select USA Office at the U.S. Department of Commerce, will be on hand to provide guidance on investing in America, while Omani government and business representatives will answer questions about doing business in Oman.  For further information please contact Ida Mathew to RSVP before October 10.

Direct Line to U.S. Business Webinar on Opportunities in Oman’s Aquaculture Sector

With fish prices and global demand at an all time high, Oman is poised for take off with a 3000+km coastline, ideal aquatic conditions, and world-class investment guidelines now in place.  U.S. Embassy Muscat will host a teleconference on September 18 to highlight opportunities for U.S. firms in the aquaculture sector in Oman. Participants will receive an overview of doing business under the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement, as well as information on specific upcoming opportunities in fish farming, fish exports, and aquaculture.  Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Wealth will outline Oman’s best prospect species, suitable sites, the investment framework, and next steps for interested investors.  Participants will have the opportunity to pose questions directly to senior Embassy officials and Government of Oman decision-makers during the Q&A portion of the call.  In addition, key local investors will be on hand for the discussion and the Embassy can facilitate matchmaking between participants subsequent to the call.  Please register at: http://www.state.gov/e/eb/directline/events/196940.htm .
