Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship Reception

U.S. Consul General Martin Quinn Honors Participants

Last Tuesday, U.S. Consul General Martin Quinn held a reception at his residence in Jeddah in honor of the five Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship (PSE) participants who are from Jeddah: Lamees Al-Mufti, Maria Mahdaly, Muna Al-Amer, Norah Maghrabi and Waleed Al-Banawi.

Four of the five participants who were chosen to participate in the PSE that is going to take place on April 26 and 27 in Washington are presently Dar Al-Hekma students.

Lamees Al-Mufti is the founder of 'Be the Change', a home-based business that prints motivational quotes on t-shirts aiming at boosting the morale and abilities of the young Saudi generation.

Maria Mahdaly is the General Manager of 'Fainak', an organization that focuses on developing a socially responsible youth culture and achieves that by organizing events that serve the community.

Muna Al-Amer is the head of the recycling club at the college and the Model United Club.

Norah Al-Maghrabi has received the Dar Al-Hekma Student Award for Social Responsibility for her 1400 hours of community service. She deeply believes in the need to establish an environmental entreprise that focuses on promoting recylcing within the Saudi community.

Waleed Al-Banawi is not a Dar Al-Hekma College student but is the Vice Chairman of Banawi Industrial Group, a company that was started by an entrepreneur in the 1980s.

The reception was attended by Dr. Suhair Al-Qurashi who is the Dean of Dar Al-Hekma, Dr. Zuhair Fayez who is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Dar Al-Hekma and a selected group of businessmen and businesswomen from Jeddah.

During the reception, the U.S. Consul presented Dean Al-Qurashi with a 'Thank You' letter from U.S. Secretary Clinton for her warm and special reception of the Secretary last February.
