Immigrant Visas

Immigrating to the United States is an important, and complex decision. This section provides information to help foreign citizens desiring to permanently immigrate to determine the visas, requirements, and related materials they will need to apply to immigrate to the United States.  All immigrant visa applications of beneficiaries resident in Uganda are processed at the U.S. Embassy Nairobi.  Please review the website for additional information.

For detailed information on immigrant visas, please visit the immigrant visas website.

Effective February 1, 2013, all individuals issued immigrant visas overseas must pay a $165.00 USCIS Immigrant Fee before traveling to the United States.  Only prospective adoptive parents whose child(ren) is/are entering the United States under either the Orphan or Hague Process, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants who were employed by the U.S. government, returning residents, and those issued K visas are exempt from the new fee.  The below USCIS website has more details on the new fee, including contact information for USCIS, if there are further questions: www.USCIS.gov/immigrantfee

Adoption in Uganda:

Uganda is not party to the Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption (Hague Adoption Convention).  Therefore, when the Hague Adoption Convention entered into force for the United States on April 1, 2008, intercountry adoption processing for Uganda did not change.

Please refer to the country specific information at the adoptions website for more information regarding the adoption process in Uganda.
