Here’s something you may not have expected – VA provides maternity care for pregnant Veterans. Even better, new benefits have been added to take care of mom and baby before, during and after childbirth.

If you’re pregnant, coordinating all of your health care in one place can ensure your wellness decisions are made using the best information. For women Veterans enrolled in VA health care, maternity care provided by VA can simplify a part of life that’s often filled with questions.

Your VA health care team can guide you through everything from prenatal nutrition to lactation support and supplies. VA-funded maternity care is normally provided by OB/GYNs in your community at no cost for eligible Veterans. If you prefer, VA can pay for Certified Nurse-Midwife services under certain conditions. VA can also cover health care services for your newborn child for up to the first seven days.

Other services we offer for expectant and new mothers include prescription benefits, parenting education, contraception after childbirth and much more.
