1/28/2013 - LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Major Eddie Kim, 47th Flying Training Wing executive officer, will run the Austin Marathon Feb. 17 in order to raise money for the Knights of Heroes foundation.

According to their mission statement, Knights of Heroes aims to empower children who have lost their fathers to military service by providing positive adult mentorship, character development and lasting friendships forged during annual wilderness adventure camps held near Colorado Springs, Colo.

Knights of Heroes also hosts families with common losses and allows them to share experiences and build relationships while increasing public awareness to ensure that families with losses are not forgotten over time.

"It's a really moving organization," said Kim. "To be able to mentor these kids who have lost parents in the military and make a difference in their lives is very special."

Kim stated that he usually donates his time over the summer to mentor at the camps but has been unable to do so over the last couple of years. He is hoping to make up for lost time in the form of a large financial contribution to the foundation.

"Last year I ran a marathon for the foundation and asked several of my friends to sponsor me," said Kim. "This year, I emailed the same handful of people again, and I'm hoping to spread the word."

"All contributions are greatly appreciated," said Kim. "No amount is too large or too small, and 100% of the money goes directly to the kids."

Anyone wishing to sponsor Kim or get involved with the foundation can contact Kim at (830) 313-3841.
