Services

The James J. Peters VAMC is a tertiary care facility, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.

The James J. Peters VAMC provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient health care services and also has three Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC’s) in Yonkers, White Plains, and Queens. We also serve VA Hudson Valley Health Care System patients with acute care needs and referrals to subspecialty clinics.

Bariatric Surgery Program

The Bariatric Surgery Program at the James J. Peters VAMC is dedicated to assisting veterans achieve and maintain a healthier weight, when traditional approaches to weight loss have been unsuccessful. Read more about the Bariatric Surgery Program.

Caregiver Support

Dietetic Internship Program

The Dietetic Internship Program prepares you to become a Registered Dietitian (RD). VA is one of the largest employers of dietitians in the nation. The internship offers excellent career opportunities, networking potential, and incentives. Read More

The Community Living Center (CLC) is designed to provide a safe, homelike environment for veterans who have a wide variety of medical, nursing and rehab needs. Read More

Former-POW Advocate

Veterans who are recognized as former Prisoners of War (POWs) seeking assistance with accessing services have an special advocate. The advocate can assist with making medical center appointments, provide supportive counseling and help with accessing benefits. The advocate also facilitates a regular support group attended by veterans who were POWs in past wars and coordinates the two POW commemorations observed annually. Geriatric Research, Education & Clinical Center (GRECC)

The GRECCs are "centers of excellence" designed for the advancement and integration of research, education and clinical achievements in geriatrics and gerontology into the total VA healthcare system. The VISN 3 GRECC is headquartered at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx and is affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine and its Department of Geriatrics and Adult Development. Homeless Veterans Services

The Community Support Services Program (CSS) uses work to normalize the lives of homeless Veterans. CSS serves Veterans who are homeless and have a medical, mental health or substance use disorder. Structured so that that the specialized homeless and work programs are combined, CSS provides outreach, crisis intervention and case management services as well as housing and vocational services. Hospice and Palliative Care provides the best possible quality of life for our veterans with advanced illness by relieving suffering, controlling symptoms, restoring functional capacity and providing grief and bereavement support to veterans and their families. Pharmacy

All medication refills and renewals are now made through our mail-out pharmacy. Veterans who use this system agree that it is very accurate and convenient. Your prescriptions are delivered right to your mailbox. You can refill by phone, mail, Internet or use the pharmacy drop box. Read More

Polytrauma Network Site

The Bronx Polytrauma Network Site is one of twenty-one facilities in the country designed to provide long-term rehabilitative care to Veterans and service members who experienced severe injuries (including brain injuries) to more than one organ system. Read More
