Welcome to the Department of Military Affairs

Maj. Gen. Edward W. Tonini
The Adjutant General

Welcome to the Department of Military Affairs web site. We hope that this will become a valuable tool and a first stop when you need information about the Kentucky Army and Air National Guard or the state structure of our department.  It is an honor and a privilege to lead so many dedicated and talented men and women.  I hope you will join me in taking every opportunity to thank the men and women in uniform for their efforts and service.  Again, welcome and please contact us if we can be of any assistance.

Our Force

The Kentucky National Guard is comprised of approximately 8,500 Soldiers and Airmen in the Army National Guard, a component of the United States Army (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.), and the Air National Guard, a component of the United States Air Force (External Link - You are now leaving the .gov domain.).

The National Guard is unique because it is the only military force in the world with a dual mission: federal and state.

Kentucky National Guard Soldiers and Airmen train every day to assist the federal government in combat and peace-time missions. Since Sept. 11, 2001 the Kentucky National Guard has been a key player in the Global War on Terror, supporting the U.S. military missions in hotspots around the globe.  A day doesn't go by that a member of the Kentucky National Guard isn't overseas in defense of this nation.

On the homefront the Kentucky National Guard remains ready to assist communities with disasters and emergencies, day or night. Whether it is in response to a flood, tornado or snow storm – or providing security for events such as the Kentucky Derby – the Kentucky National Guard is here for the people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Please visit our website www.Kentuckyguard.com for more information and daily stories about the Kentucky National Guard.
