Eligibility

The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs, which is commonly referred to as CHAMPVA, is a health care benefits program in which the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) shares the cost of certain health care services and supplies with certain eligible beneficiaries. The Primary Family Caregiver qualifies for CHAMPVA when he/she is not entitled to care or services under a health plan contract such as: Medicare, Medicaid, Indian Health Insurance, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), or a workers’ compensation law or plan. In addition, Primary Family Caregivers who are eligible for TRICARE benefits are not eligible for CHAMPVA.

Overview

The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) is a health care program in which the VA shares the cost of covered health care services and supplies with the eligible primary caregiver. The program is administered by Purchased Care at the Health Administration Center located in Denver, Colorado.
