Course Description
Respiratory Protection: Program Development and Administration is a three-day course which provides the necessary information to develop, implement, administer, and properly sustain a respiratory protection program. Along with other Federal regulations, all aspects of Respiratory Protection, 29 Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) § 1910.134 is discussed. Students can use the information provided during the course to build a respiratory protection program that complies with the laws and regulations regarding specific emergency response actions.
The following are some critical skills and topics covered during the training program:
- Applicability of personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection to the first responder at the awareness, operation, and technician levels;
- Discussion of Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER);
- Review of the general requirements for personal protective equipment;
- Qualitative and quantitative fit testing, to include fit testing requirements in accordance with § 1910.134;
- Conducting a quantitative fit test using multiple technologies.
- Maintenance, care, use, and storage of respirators;
- Atmosphere-supplying respirators, air quality, and the employer’s responsibility for maintenance of air quality equipment;
- Administrative aspects of a respiratory protection program to include training, evaluation, and record-keeping requirements.
Additional Qualifications/Certifications
To be eligible to attend RP, candidates must be an employer-designated respiratory protection program administrator with requisite knowledge of the subject and purpose of the course content.
