Human Trafficking

Minnesota has a long tradition of fighting human trafficking, and I am proud that Franni and I have worked on these issues for many years, like Paul and Sheila Wellstone before us.

As a member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, I'm particularly concerned about trafficking in Native American communities, which too often goes unrecognized. Very little research has been done on the levels of, causes of, or solutions to trafficking in Native American communities.

I'm also extremely concerned about labor trafficking, the hidden slavery in our backyard. Too many workers are being exploited in slave-like conditions, especially by labor recruiters who charge them high fees to enter the country and then hold them hostage to that debt.
