School Outreach Program
 

The embassy’s School Outreach Program is designed to provide Swiss secondary school students with the opportunity to meet with U.S. Embassy staff to learn more about the United States. The discussions can be carried out in English, French and German. That said, many teachers see this as a good opportunity for their students to practice their English-language skills.

A typical visit would begin with an embassy staff member presenting a short overview on a subject related to American society, culture or politics. They may also talk more generally about the work of an embassy. Following this introduction, the speaker engages in a question and answer session with the students. With sufficient planning, the content of the sessions can be tailored to complement your class’ curriculum.

The embassy is able to host small groups in Bern, but we are also willing to visit schools throughout Switzerland.

How to Request a School Visit

Speaker requests can be arranged by phone, letter, or e-mail.  The requests should include:

  • desired date (please give alternate dates)
  • location
  • information about the school
  • age group of the students
  • the size of the group
  • suggested discussion topics
  • the name and telephone number/e-mail of a contact person

There is no charge to the requesting school or institution.
