Fraud Warning

Fraudulent eMails to DV Winners: If you have received an email notifying you that your application for the DV Program has been successful and that in order to proceed with your application you are required to send money to a named individual, you are a victim of a scam.  In previous years, successful DV applicants were notified by the Department of State, Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) by letter, NOT email and were provided instructions on how to proceed to the next step in the process.  The KCC does not ask you to send money to them or to this Embassy or any other U.S. Embassy by mail or by services such as Western Union.

For those of you who have applied for DV-2014 official notification of selection will be made on line through the Entry Status Check which will be available from May 1, 2013 on the E-DV website at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/.  This is the only manner in which you will receive notification of the status of your entry.  Should you receive an e-mail notification or a mailed letter about your E-DV selection, be aware that the notification is not legitimate.  It is only after you are selected, and respond to the notification instructions made available to you via Entry Status Check, and processing begins on your case, that you may receive follow-up e-mail communication from the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) informing you to review Entry Status Check for new information about your application.  The KCC will not ask you to send money to them, to this Embassy or any other U.S. Embassy by mail or by services such as Western Union.  If you receive an email that appears to be a fraudulent DV notification, we ask that you send it to our email address at TiranaUSConsulate@state.gov.

Please review the Department of State Warning on DV fraud scams and the Federal Trade Commission Warning.

Fraud Websites: Some websites may try to mislead you into thinking that they are official websites for the Diversity Visa Lottery.  They may attempt to require you to pay for services such as forms and information, which would otherwise be free on the Department of State or Embassy websites.  Some companies seek money in order to complete the application form for the Diversity Visa Lottery.  There is no charge in order to complete the electronic application form for Diversity Visa.  Winners will be notified ONLY through the Entry Status check starting May 1, 2013 at the Diversity Visa Lottery website http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/, and it is not necessary to use any facilitator to apply for the Diversity Visa.

For those of you who have applied for DV-2014 official notification of selection will be made on line through the Entry Status Check which will be available from May 1, 2013 on the E-DV website at http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/.

Remember, successful DV applicants are notified by the Department of State, Kentucky Consular Center (KCC).  No other organization or private company is authorized by the Department of State to notify DV applicants of their winning entry, or the next steps in the processing of applying for their visa.
