DAS Victoria Esser kicks of TFCA 2
On December 1, Victoria Esser, the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Digital Strategy, opened Tech Forum Central Asia Two (TFCA 2) at Almaty’s KIMEP University. TFCA 2, following up on the hugely successful TFCA conference in June, brought together thirteen leading international and Kazakhstani technologists for two days to train over 60 participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan on how to use technology to improve their communities and help society. This high-tech, interactive social entrepreneurship event was organized by the U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan, in partnership with KIMEP University, and was designed to enable participants to establish working contacts and build networks with their counterparts across Central and South Asia. The event was a part of the Secretary of State’s Civil Society 2.0 initiative’s series of global “Tech Camps,” which help build digital literacy for civil society organizations by bringing in local and regional technology experts to educate, train and work with civil society groups.
