Ambassador Andrew after Presentation of Credentials

San Jose - January 12, 2010

"I am delighted to be here and to begin my term as the next United States Ambassador to the Republic of Costa Rica. It is my greatest honor to serve as the personal representative of President Obama and to represent Secretary of State Clinton and the interests of the people of the United States to this great country of Costa Rica and its people.

The United States and Costa Rica have a strong and enduring relationship founded upon our common commitment to democracy, security and prosperity. At the same time, the people of our countries have developed a deep respect and friendship for each other. As Ambassador, I will work tirelessly to strengthen these vital relationships and to find new opportunities where our countries and our people can work together. This is true particularly for opportunities related to environmental, education and clean energy matters; matters of priority for the Obama Administration and areas where Costa Rica is a recognized global leader. Thank you for my warm welcome to this beautiful country and I look forward to traveling and meeting the gracious people of Costa Rica who have been recognized worldwide as the happiest people on earth!"
