Salah ad Din
Salah ad-Din Province straddles the Tigris River and extends from the northern edge of Baghdad to Ninewa and Kirkuk Provinces in the north. Two of Iraq’s three cultural heritage sites, Ashur (Qal’at Sherqat) and Samarra Archaeological City, both on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, are located in the Salah ad-Din Province and are priorities for conservation.
Based in the city of Tikrit, Salah ad-Din PRT is headed by a senior State Department Foreign Service Officer and assisted by a U.S. military support element. The team also includes other State Department Foreign Service Officers and detailees from USAID, Department of Agriculture, Department of Justice, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with a strong group of subject matter experts in areas including governance, economic development and public diplomacy. The team focuses its efforts on fostering partnerships between U.S. universities and the provincial university, developing the capacity of provincial and local governments, and assisting provincial authorities with long-term planning, agricultural development, and improvement of the delivery of health services.
