Our Mission

Our mission is to educate medical professionals and first responders in the management of chemical casualties and to provide consultation to military and civilian authorities.

About Us

The Chemical Casualty Care Division (CCCD), located at Aberdeen Proving Ground Edgewood Area, MD is a division of the United States Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD). The USAMRICD is one of six medical research laboratories and institutes operated by the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) located at Fort Detrick, MD.

Under sponsorship of the US Army Medical Department Center and School (AMEDDC&S), The Army Medical Department (AMED) and The Office of The Surgeon General Medical NBC, our staff of physicians, nurses, and other highly qualified military and civilian personnel, develop, organize, and implement post-graduate education programs for medical professionals, hospital administrators, medical planners, and first responders in the management of chemical agent casualties.

Courses are offered as Resident (In-House), Nonresident (Off-Site), and through Distance Learning. Many of our courses are accredited for CME/CEU credits for physicians, nurses, and paramedical professionals. For course descriptions and schedules refer to the Calendar of Events page.

Advisory Role

The CCCD serves as advisors to the Chemical-Biological Rapid Response Team (C/BRRT), Domestic Emergency Support Team (DEST), Foreign Emergency Support Team (FEST), and on-scene Incident Commanders. We provide casualty management training and expert consultation to other military branches, federal agencies, civilian and federal authorities in the event of a chemical warfare or toxic industrial chemical agent release.
