A workforce numbering more than 11,000 people is involved in the day-to-day operations of Hanford cleanup. Employees at two Department of Energy offices located at Hanford oversee the cleanup work on the Site which is done by several prime contracting agencies. Each of these contractors or their subcontractors has an assigned scope of work to complete under the guidance of the DOE.

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International, Inc. (ATL) ATL operates the 222-S Laboratory complex, the primary on-site lab for analysis of highly radioactive samples in support of all Hanford projects. |

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI) Bechtel is coordinating the construction of Hanford’s Waste Treatment Plant, also known as the Vitrification (or Vit) Plant. |

Washington River Protection Solutions LLC (WRPS) WRPS carries out the work associated with monitoring and managing the 177 underground storage tanks at Hanford. These tanks contain liquid and semi-solid wastes that will ultimately be turned into a glass product within the Vitrification Plant for permanent disposition. |

HPM Corporation (HPMC) HPM Corporation (HPMC) Hanford provides occupational medical services to DOE and the Site contractors. |

CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company (CHPRC) The CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Complany is tasked with environmental cleanup of the Central Plateau and cleanup of waste sites and contaminated groundwater to eliminate risks to the Columbia River. The CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Complany scope includes the solid and liquid waste treatment and disposal, soil and groundwater remediation, facility and canyon disposition, and closure of the Plutonium Finishing Plant, as well as treatment of highly radioactive sludge. |

Mission Support Alliance (MSA) MSA consists of several organizations responsible for many of the cross-cutting activities associated with Hanford cleanup. The MSA team oversees security, site infrastructure and utilities, information management, fire services, and business management. |

Washington Closure Hanford (WCH) Washington Closure Hanford is the prime contractor for environmental restoration of the Hanford Site, which includes cleaning up waste sites, decontaminating and decommissioning former plutonium reactors, and disposing of contaminated waste. |
In addition to the seven agencies listed above, a number of subcontractors perform specialized projects within the work scope of the prime contractors.
