Canadian Forces (CF) Detachment Elmendorf was established in support of CF personnel employed at Elmendorf Air Force Base under the NORAD binational co-manning agreement. This agreement was a result of the 1982 Air Defense Master Plan (ADMP) and the subsequent 1985 North American Air Defense Modernization (NAADM) Program which called upon CF and USAF personnel to jointly man and operate the Alaskan NORAD Region (ANR) area Operations Control Center (ROCC) which became operational June 14, 1983. Since then, CF personnel were added to be employed with the 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron and 611th Air Support Squadron in support of the ANR mission.
