438th Air Expeditionary Wing 438th Air Expeditionary Wing

The 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, headquartered in Kabul, Afghanistan, has three Air Advisory Groups stationed at the Kabul International Airport, Kandahar Air Base, and Shindand Air Base, as well as numerous detachments across Afghanistan. In July 2010, the 438 AEW partnered with the Afghan Air Force and advised and executed the largest single-mission 2-helicopter humanitarian search and rescue mission in United States Air Force history and saved 2,080 people. The Mi-17 was used during this mission. The Wing's motto clearly depicts its mission, "Building Air Power for Afghanistan."
