Lineage. Constituted as 24 Support Squadron, and activated, on 1 Nov 1966. Organized on 1 Jan 1967. Redesignated as 24 Aerospace Defense Squadron on 8 Jan 1970. Inactivated on 31 Dec 1970. Consolidated (3 Aug 2009) with 24 Air Defense Squadron (SAGE), which was constituted on 16 Sep 1974. Activated on 1 Jan 1975. Redesignated as 24 Air Defense Squadron on 1 Sep 1983. Inactivated on 1 Jul 1987. Redesignated as 24 Expeditionary Air Defense Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 3 Aug 2009.
 
Assignments. 10 Aerospace Defense Group, 1 Jan 1967-31 Dec 1970. 24 Air Division, 1 Jan 1975-1 Jul 1987. Air Combat Command to activate or inactivate at any time on or after 3 Aug 2009.
 
Stations. Johnston Island AFB, Johnston Island, 1 Jan 1967-31 Dec 1970. Malmstrom AFB, MT, 1 Jan 1975; Griffiss AFB, NY, 1 Sep 1983-1 Jul 1987.
