Lineage. Constituted as 1 Medical Air Evacuation Squadron on 15 May 1951. Activated on 11 Jun 1951. Redesignated: 1 Aeromedical Evacuation Flight on 20 Dec 1952; 1 Aeromedical Squadron on 8 Apr 1957. Inactivated on 8 Aug 1958. Activated on 1 Jul 1975. Inactivated on 1 Jul 1994. Redesignated as 1 Expeditionary Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and converted to provisional status on 21 Mar 2003. Redesignated 1 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron and withdrawn from provisional status on 18 Dec 2008.

Twelfth Air Force, 11 Jun 1951; 7416 Medical Air Evacuation (later, 7416 Aeromedical Evacuation) Group, 15 Sep 1954; 2 Aeromedical Evacuation Group, 8 Apr 1957-8 Aug 1958. 375 Aeromedical Airlift (later, 375 Military Airlift) Wing, 1 Jul 1975; 317 Tactical Airlift Wing, 1 Oct 1990; 317 Operations Group, 1 Jan 1992; 23 Operations Group, 16 Jul 1993-1 Jul 1994. 

Stations. Rhein-Main AB, GE, 11 Jun 1951-8 Aug 1958. Pope AFB, NC, 1 Jul 1975-1 Jul 1994.
