Program Mission
The mission of Miami VA Healthcare System Nutrition & Food Services is to serve the veteran, and all our clients, high quality, nutritionally balanced, appetizing meals and provide optimal nutrition care through a well-defined Medical Nutrition Therapy program.
Service Description
Nutrition & Food Services is a fully integrated service for the Miami and West Palm Beach VA Medical Centers. Service efficiency and effectiveness relies upon a unique sharing of resources between the medical centers and a unified direction by a registered dietitian designated as Chief, Nutrition & Food Services. Nutrition & Food Services is comprised of two major program areas: Clinical Nutrition and Administrative Operations. These program areas function as one cohesive department and depend upon each other both within and between our two sites. Staff work together in service to veterans and all our internal/external customers. The management’s primary function is to enable employees to provide quality service. Service systems and operations are designed to be as efficient and effective as possible in support of the Medical Centers’ program areas. Services are coordinated to promote continuity of care between inpatient and ambulatory care whenever possible. Specific clinical care programs emphasize primary care interventions and preventative care/wellness. The dietitian serves as an integral member of the health care team and functions as the nutrition expert in client care, education, and research.
Our Vision
Nutrition & Food Services will be recognized as a model provider of nutrition services and hospitality in healthcare. Working together we will provide outstanding customer service noted for quality products, courtesy, responsiveness and compassionate concern for all clients. We will be accountable to our customers, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the local community.
