Land & Resources Management

With stewardship of more than 1.2 million acres of public land in Florida, the National Forests in Florida manage public land with two major goals in mind:

  • Conservation of natural resources
  • Recreation for visitors

To do so, the following tools are used:

  • Forest Plan
  • Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA)
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
  • Public Comment
  • Amendments to the Forest Plan

The Forest Plan provides guidance for the overall management of the National Forests in Florida for 10 - 15 years. The Forest Plan is a framework for decision-making, not a list of specific projects.
