Mary Beth Foglia, RN, PhD, MA: Staff, Ethics Evaluation

Dr. Foglia is an experienced health services administrator and ethicist who joined the Center in 2001. Dr. Foglia received her ethics training at the University of Washington in Seattle where she studied under the guidance of Albert R Jonsen, PhD. She currently manages the development and implementation of Preventive Ethics within IntegratedEthics. She also serves as a senior member of the National Center for Ethics in Health Care's (NCEHC) evaluation group which applies qualitative and quantitative approaches to improve ethics quality in health care. Dr. Foglia is affiliate faculty in the Department of Bioethics and Humanities, School of Medicine and the Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle where she teaches organizational ethics to health care executives obtaining an advanced degree in health care administration. Dr. Foglia’s interests include the application of quality improvement principles and methods to improve ethics practices, development of quality indicators and measures in ethics, general issues in organizational ethics, and rural ethics. Her recent publications include articles on improving informed consent in pediatric research, priority setting, nursing perspectives on disclosure of errors, and ethical challenges from the perspectives of managers, clinicians, patients and ethics committee chairpersons. In her free time she loves reading mysteries, and hiking or mountain biking with her yellow Labrador, Sierra.
