Barbara L. Chanko, RN, MBA: Staff, Ethics Consultation

Chanko, RN, MBA, received a BS in Nursing from Hunter College, an MBA in Health Care Administration from the Baruch College/Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a certificate in Bioethics and the Medical Humanities after completing a program sponsored jointly by the Montefiore Medical Center and New York University. Prior to joining VA in 1988, Ms. Chanko worked as a psychiatric nurse and in the health care insurance industry. At the New York Campus of the VA New York Harbor Health Care System, Ms. Chanko was the Administrative Officer for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service, the Staff Assistant to the Medical Center Director and for 10 years, the Health Systems Specialist to the Chief of Staff. Since 1990, Ms. Chanko has participated in various capacities on the VA NY Harbor Health Care System's Ethics Advisory Committee. She has special interests in ethics consultation, policy and education and serves as faculty for the "Introduction to Medical Ethics" course for medical students at the New York University School of Medicine.
