Varmus Names Acting DCP Director

From NCI Director Harold Varmus, MD:  Please join me in welcoming Lori Minasian as the Acting Director for the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP). Lori has kindly agreed to serve, beginning immediately, until we select and install a new permanent Division Director.

Lori joined the NCI as a Medical Officer in the Community Clinical Oncology Program over 14 years ago, and she has served as a DCP Branch Chief since 1998.  Her expertise in the areas of cancer prevention and control and her understanding of clinical and translational research have prepared her well to lead the DCP through this transition.

I also want to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to Peter Greenwald for his many years of dedicated leadership of the DCP.  As I mentioned during Tuesday's NCAB meeting, Peter was recently selected to serve as the Associate Director for Prevention in my office, where he will advise me on the NCI's priorities for cancer prevention research.
