About Passports

The Consular section in Auckland processes United States passport applications for all New Zealand and the Cook Islands. Currently, processing time for most passports is five to seven working days.

Passport applications can no longer be executed before a New Zealand Notary Public, and must be executed by appointment before a Consular Officer. All  applicants except those who can submit an undamaged, 10 year validity passport, that did not expire more than 5 years ago, must appear in person at the Consulate to make their passport applications.

Consular Report of Birth Abroad applications must also be made in person, by appointment.

You may also submit your applications at one of the Consular Outreach visits we make within New Zealand.

If you have any queries or require additional information concerning the procedures for applying for a U.S. passport please contact American Citizens Services - Phone +64 9 303 2724 ext: 2800.  Please be prepared to leave a message on voice mail and we shall respond between the hours of 7.30am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
