The flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. Government, widely known as the Fulbright Program, is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.  It aims to provide educational exchange experiences to a maximum number of individuals not previously afforded such an opportunity.

Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program

Every year, the Embassy offers the possibility for one or two junior-level Mauritian academics to participate in the Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program (JSDP) for study in the United States towards a Master’s or Ph.D. degree or for one year of graduate study for non-degree purposes.  Selected candidates are funded by the Fulbright Program for a maximum of two years.

Fulbright Advanced Research Program In the United States for Scholars from sub-Saharan Africa

Under above program, it may be possible for African university faculty either to conduct postdoctoral research or undertake a planned program of reading and research during any academic year at a U.S. academic or research institution.  The program in Africa is administered as a regional program.  Scholars from throughout sub-Saharan Africa (with the exception of South Africa) compete for awards not only with other candidates from their own country, but also with all other African candidates.

U.S. Fulbright Lecturer/Researcher Program

Offers opportunity for one-two U.S. faculty or professional to lecture and/or conduct research abroad in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.  The University of Mauritius is the hosting institution.

U.S. Fulbright Student Program

Offers opportunity for two-three U.S. graduate students or graduating seniors to study and conduct research abroad with support from the Fulbright Program.
