The 140th Wing, Colorado Air National Guard is unique in that it is comprised of four groups, 11 squadrons, and three geographically separated units (GSUs).  140th Wing operates three missions that fall under three different commands:  the F-16 mission, operating under Air Combat Command; the C-21 mission, operating under Air Mobility Command; and the Space Warning mission, operating under Space Command.  In addition, the Colorado Air Guard also has three GSUs, the C-21 Airlift Squadron, the 137th Space Warning Squadron, and the 240th Civil Engineering Flight, which operates under Pacific Air Forces.  The 1500 personnel are permanently assigned to Buckley AFB, Greeley ANGS, Peterson AFB, and Airburst Range near Ft. Carson and make up units that provide fighter, airlift and support forces.  This proud wing maintains both a Federal and State militia heritage and capability, and is prepared to support our Nation, State and local Community in times of need.
tab140th Wing Groups 
140th Operations Group (OG) - Provides command, leadership, and direction to over 100 military and civilian personnel at three units; the 120th Fighter Squadron, the 200th Airlift Squadron and the 140th Operation Support Squadron. Directs the aviation actions and is responsible for all phases of training and equipping combat F-16 forces, VIP airlift, and maintaining the Buckley Airfield and Airburst Range complex.


140th Mission Support Group (MSG) - Responsible for wing administration and mission support and the 1409 members in its subordinate units providing engineering and facilities, communication infrastructure, flight-line security, services, personnel and logistical support. 




140th Maintenance Group (MXG) - Provides maintenance on over 20 assigned F-16C+ aircraft for the Colorado Air National Guard. The 140th Maintenance Group generates more than 2900 sorties compiling 4,000 flight hours per year, which plays a pivotal role in providing safe and efficient combat readiness training for more than 30 pilots every year. The 140th Maintenance Group is also directly responsible for supplying Mission-Ready Alert Aircraft for the 140th Wing's Air Sovereignty Alert Mission as well as providing 24/7 support for that mission. The Group consists of over 500 combat ready Airmen specializing in maintaining the F-16s and engines-assets, which are valued at more than $600 million.


140th Medical Group (MDG) - Made up of 79 members who ensure the protection and health care screening for all 140th Wing COANG personnel ensuring worldwide readiness for deployments.

137th Space Warning Squadron (SWS) -
USAF's only mobile unit providing survivable and endurable missile warning and nuclear detection to the National Command Authority. 


200th Airlift Squadron (AS) -  
The 200th Airlift Squadron provides secure priority airlift for the highest level of military and civilian leaders throughout the world.  In addition to passenger airlift, the unit also provides cargo airlift and is capable of transporting one litter or five ambulatory patients during aeromedical evacuations. 
                                                                                     

240th Civil Engineer Flight (CEF)
Headquarters PACAF-gained Engineer Unit, comprised of 40 personnel, provides Mobility Engineering Design and ANG Environmental Support.

The Air National Guard as we know it today -- a separate reserve component of the United States Air Force -- was a product of the politics of postwar planning and interservice rivalry during World War II. The men who planned and maneuvered for an independent postwar Air Force during World War II didn't place much faith in the reserves, especially the state-dominated National Guard.
