Study in the U.S.

Timeline

Applying to American colleges and universities is a long and cumbersome process.  The more you plan out and the earlier you start, the better your university experience will be.  If the process is rushed, you may end up attending a university that does not fit your needs and you may end up diminishing your chances of scholarships.  The American school year begins in August, and the application process takes over a year.  The timeline is as follows:

  • January – March:  In anticipation of taking the SAT or ACT, start reading and thinking about what you read!  Also, start familiarizing yourself with the tests, and start reading the practice/study sections on the various tests.
  • April – August: Plan, evaluate your academic and financial resources, research and find the 10 best universities for you.
  • September – November: Schedule tests, take TOEFL and SAT or ACT, write practice essays, and obtain applications, records and recommendations.
  • December – February: Apply to universities.
  • April – May: Receive acceptance and financial aid decisions.
  • June – August: Apply for visa from consulate office.
  • August: Start your new adventure in America.
