Ambassador Warlick Visits Nis

Nis, 20 March 2012

On March 20 Ambassador Warlick visited Nis to take part in the celebration of USAID's 50th anniversary and its ten years of operation in Serbia. Also attending the event were USAID Mission Director Susan Fritz, Nis Mayor Milos Simonovic, and U.S. officials visiting from Washington, all of whom gathered with USAID partners and local government leaders from throughout central and eastern Serbia to mark a decade of partnership.

While in Nis, Ambassador Warlick also visited with Miroslava Jovanovic, the president of the NGO Association of Single Mothers, which supports women and children who are victims of domestic violence and empowers those women to gain financial independence. The U.S. Embassy has an ongoing partnership with Ms. Jovanovic and her organization and recently supported a project aimed at networking social workers, police officers, doctors, and teachers who deal with domestic violence.

In the afternoon, Ambassador Warlick lunched with fans of the Embassy's Facebook page. Sharing pizza with the group that that included several teachers, students and other business professionals, she heard their thoughts about the U.S., the embassy, and the Embassy's FB page.

Concluding her visit, the Ambassador visited with the Dean of Nis University's Faculty of Philosophy and interviewed with the faculty's Studentski Dnevnik List, another close embassy partner.
