U.S. Embassy Presents Awards for Excellence in Investigative Journalism

May 4, 2010

Each year on May 3, the world celebrates Press Freedom Day in support of the contributions that a free media makes to a strong civil society and a healthy democracy. We recognize the important contributions of journalists who strive to give a voice to alternative ideas and to challenge assumptions, and we honor those who have risked their lives and fortunes for the sake of a free press.

The Embassy’s Public Affairs Office, working with the Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS), established the first awards in Serbia for excellence in investigative reporting. The awards are given to mid-career and young journalists from television, radio, on-line and the print media.

On Tuesday, May 4, Ambassador Mary Warlick joined journalists and representatives from NUNS to honor Serbia's investigative reporters in a special award ceremony held at the Faculty of Drama Arts.
