Cultural Envoy Conducts Creative Writing Workshops

During her short visit to the south of Serbia, Prof. Merrilee Cunningham, an accomplished poet and experienced creative writing teacher from Houston, Texas, conducted creative writing workshops for schoolchildren and teachers at the American Corners in Vranje and Bujanovac. More than fifty children and ten teachers were engaged in the pleasure and power of reading and writing.

Her weekend stay in the capital city of Belgrade was also used for a workshop organized at the central children's library and a roundtable with a group of university professors, local award-winning writers, English teachers, and students. A lunch hosted by the Embassy was followed by an invitation to the writing studio of one of the Serbian most renowned and widely translated contemporary author Zoran Zivkovic, who teaches Creative Writing at Belgrade University, and who pledged to establish a long-lasting relationship with the guest.
