On behalf of the American people, I extend my warmest congratulations to you and the people of Lithuania on the occasion of Lithuania's National Day on February 16.
The American people are grateful for your nation's strong commitment to our transatlantic partnership and to international security. Lithuania's dedication to freedom and democracy offers a powerful example to those still striving for their human rights. We greatly appreciate the contributions Lithuania is making in Afghanistan and the sacrifices your citizens have made on behalf of that cause. We are proud to count you as an ally with whom we can face the many challenges of today's world.
I look forward to continuing to strengthen the close cooperation between our two countries.
