U.S. Sponsors International Border Protection Workshop in Cairo

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducted a workshop in Cairo this week (July 24-28) with Egyptian Customs and the Egyptian Ministry of Interior on how to protect and manage borders as part of the Department of State Export Control and Border Security Assistance Program (EXBS).

The Border Interdiction Training (IBIT) course focused on practical exercises and field operations to reinforce techniques and methodologies relating to border protection.  Practical exercises comprised the majority of the training and included: search of vehicles, pedestrians, commercial cargo and large commercial carriers.

Twenty-eight participants representing Egyptian Customs and the Ministry of Interior attended the training, including the customs directors at Cairo and Aswan airports.  Workshop attendees came from locations all over Egypt, including Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, and Noweiba.
