USAID Director Meets Officials and Business Leaders in Alexandria

February 21, 2012

Alexandria – On February 16, USAID Mission Director Walter North made his first visit to Alexandria since his arrival in Egypt.

“The economic activity in Alexandria is energizing.” said Mr. North.  “USAID welcomes the chance to work with the Governor and the private sector to deepen our partnership for economic growth.”

During his trip, Mr. North met with Governor Ossama El Fouly and was also introduced to several other business, academic, and governmental leaders in Alexandria.  The meetings focused on priority areas of cooperation including investing in people through education programs and skill building.

Over the past thirty years, USAID has invested over $1 billion in Alexandria Governorate, supporting projects that have increased access to education, financed water and wastewater projects, and assisted with public health improvement and private sector development.  Ongoing projects in Alexandria include economic growth and job creation, improvement of quality and safety for healthcare services, and supporting schools in the use of technology.
