Institutional Membership
 


The American Information Resource Center (AIRC) Calcutta, offers institutional membership to select corporations and educational institutions in Eastern India to serve their needs for information in the fields of Economics and Business Management, International Relations, Information Technology, American Literature, and the Social Sciences.

We offer our Institutional members the following services

  • Five borrowers' cards against which 20 books (for 4 weeks) and 5 videocassettes
    (for a week) may be borrowed at a time.  For outstation members the loan period is 8 weeks.
  • Book reservation services from our library collection and those of our libraries in
    New Delhi, Bombay and Madras. Books from these libraries can be made available for our patrons through our inter-library loan services.
  • Access to the library's reading room and reference collection. Our fully-automated library has a collection of 20000 American publications, 150 American periodicals and three newspapers. We have Internet connectivity and our CD-ROM full-text databases allow for instant retrieval of magazine articles from hundreds of American periodicals.
  • We provide document delivery service from other USIS libraries in India.
  • Assistance from trained reference specialists in locating information from print and electronic media. Librarians answer specific queries by telephone, fax, e-mail, letter and in person.

Members have entry to American Center film shows.

Institutional Members receive the following publications

  1. The BOOK ALERT, a bi-monthly list of recent additions to American Information Resource Centers, to help select books for borrowing.
  2. The ARTICLE ALERT, a bi-monthly digest of recent articles from current American periodicals from which members may request reprints free of cost.
  3. SPAN magazine, published by the USIS, New Delhi.
  4. The American Center Bulletin, a listing of USIS programs and activities.
  5. Lists of books on specific subjects (on request).

Enrollment Processing Fee

  • Non-Profit Institutions : Rs. 2000/- (one year),Rs. 3000/- (two year).
  • Others : Rs.4000/- (one year), Rs. 7000/- (two year).

The fee is payable in cash, or by check/demand draft drawn in favor of the "American Consulate General,Calcutta."
