Application Checklist
 

5 basic items required by all applicants:

  1. A valid passport.
  2. Visa Application Fee in cash or a bankremisse if the applicant meets the requirements to send the application in by mail.
  3. Confirmation sheet of DS-160. Please review the following information before you fill out your DS-160 application form.
  4. Way of sending your passport back to you (3 options).
  5. One photograph which meets all Department of State photo requirements. (Applicants must bring an additional photo which can be used as an alternative to the one uploaded to DS-160)

In addition the following Visa Applicants will need to submit the documents listed below:

Student Visa Applicants

  • I-20 or DS-2019 form issued by school or institution.
  • SEVIS Fee receipt
  • Proof of funds to cover all expenses:
    For example a letter from Lånekassen or a bank statement.

Petition-Based Visa Applicants

  • I-797- Notice of action (also called the petition)
  • In addition; Blanket-L visa applicants need to submit two copies of the Blanket L-1 petition I-129S which is completed by the company.

Crew members

  • Letter of guarantee
  • In addition; B1-OCS visa applicants will need to submit a US Coast guard Letter

Journalists

  • Employment letter including your name, position, nature of employment, a brief description of your history with the organization, and the purpose and duration of stay in the U.S. 
  • Copy of current press card

E-Visa Applicants

Applicants who have been Previously Arrested or Convicted

  • Updated unexpunged police report (Uttømmende politiattest)
  • Copy of all court documents, forelegg or fines you have received (even if you were subject to pardon, amnesty or other act of clemency). Some applicants will be asked to provide official translations of their court records as part of the adjudication process.

B1/B2 Visa Applicants

  • Evidence of social and economic ties to a counrty outside the U.S. (Applicants are encouraged to apply for a visa in the their country of residence).

Applicants who are unable to demonstrate sufficiently strong ties to Norway or to their country of residence cannot be issued a visa.

Evidence of social and economic ties may include, but is not limited to;

  • A recently dated “Bostedsattest” (or certificate of residency) which can be obtained at “Folkeregisteret”
  • Ownership papers for a house or apartment; and/or 
  • Old passports which contain previously issued U.S. visas. 
  • Business ownership and registration papers for a company, as well as the latest tax declaration; 
  • An old passport or an official notification letter from the Norwegian government which demonstrates when the applicant first received a Norwegian residence permit;
