In the unfortunate event of the death, arrest, medical emergency or destitution of a U.S. citizen in a foreign country, there are certain services the Embassy can provide to the American citizen and/or the next-of-kin.

The Embassy’s services are intended to ensure the American citizen’s well-being, not to affect the outcome of legal proceedings or medical procedures.  The Embassy cannot attempt to secure the release of an incarcerated U.S. citizen, nor can the Embassy provide legal representation or advice.

The Embassy makes no representation concerning the availability or performance of any attorney, doctor or hospital on the following lists, and can neither endorse nor recommend a particular attorney. Click here to see these lists.
